Academic credits

School of Record

Our academic partner & School of Record is Culver Stockton College. C-SC is a small, Liberal Arts school in Missouri, established in 1853. C-SC was the first academic institution west of the Mississippi River chartered specifically for men and women. Quite a proud heritage! All Center for Field Sciences students will get a letter grade and transcripts at the end of their field school participation from C-SC. Center for Field Sciences students will be awarded 8 semester credit units as HIS 489 class (Selected Topics in History) – an Upper Division class as posted on the C-SC Academic Catalog.

Notwithstanding the above, C-SC does not engage directly with Center for Field Sciences students, nor does it offer financial aid to participants in our programs. All materials must be sent directly to CFS.

Credit Units

Students attending CFS programs will be awarded credits units based on the following formula. All of our four weeks or longer programs awards the full number of credits units – 8 semester based credits (equivalent to 12 quarter base credits).

Transcripts

Students will be able to access their transcript through our School of Record – Culver-Stockton College. C-SC has authorized the National Student Clearinghouse to provide enrollment and degree verification.  Upon completion of a program, students will get an email from C-SC with a student ID that may be used to retrieve transcripts. The first set of transcripts will be provided at no cost, additional transcripts may require payment. If you have questions about ordering a transcript, contact the C-SC office of the registrar at registrar@culver.edu.

Transfer of Credit Units

Students are strongly encouraged to discuss the transferability of credit units with their own school official(s) BEFORE attending a CFS field school.  When meeting with school officials – whether the Registrar, Study Away Staff, or Academic Adviser – students bring the field school syllabus with them and the CFS website address so school officials may independently review our academic merit and the way by which we peer-review each field school.

To download the syllabus from the field school web page, go to your program’s web page and click on the ‘Download Syllabus’ button.  The syllabus will download as a PDF file and you may print or save to your computer.

Attending Multiple Programs

Students may attend as many programs as they wish. CFS field schools within each discipline (Archaeology, Paleontology, Geology, etc) get the same academic ID number. Students who may wish to attend more than one program in any discipline may not be able to transfer credits for all programs to their home school. Consult with your school officials about the number of credits you can transfer for attending multiple programs.

Consortium Agreements

Some universities, mostly Liberal Art Colleges, may require a Consortium Agreement between CFS and the school to allow student participation in our programs. CFS is delighted to comply with the following conditions:

  • Consortium Agreements must originate from the university where the student is matriculating
  • The student must complete their part of the agreement before sending the form to CFS as it usually asked for privileged information (student ID, etc.) we need to complete our section and ensure privacy and security of the student records.

When ready, sign and send the Consortium Agreement as an email attachment to info@fieldsciences.org. We will review and sign, usually within 5 business days. We will return the form to the student as an email attachment, unless asked to mail a hard copy as well. If you need a hard copy, please state so in the email sent to us with the Consortium Agreement.
