Preparing the Next Generation for Rewarding Environmental Science Careers in Academia, Government & Private Sector

Much has been said about our rapidly evolving world. From climate change to technology, from increasing cost of higher education to finding rewarding careers, it is difficult to adapt to the ever shifting new realities. But one thing is clear. We must create a well-educated, well-trained workforce to help us deal with the environmental impact of humans on our world. If we are to preserve the past so we may learn from it and make better & informed decisions about the future, we must provide the next-generation workforce the tools to do so. Field school training is a key component for such training, allowing students to implement classroom learning and understand the challenges of field work.

In archaeology, the center of professional gravity is shifting from academia to Cultural Resource Management (CRM), both conducting field work and in government positions for compliance and oversight. It is now possible for young people to build rewarding careers in the sector, with jobs providing generous wages, benefits and hybrid work both in the office and the outdoors (see Twin Cairns Intelligence Unit Job Reports for prevailing wages).

Your donation helps us offset the cost of field schools – one of the major barriers of entry to archaeological careers. Whether you donate for specific program, specific cause, or general operations of CFS, our focus is – and will always be – providing excellence in environmental sciences training. Help us bring affordability, equity, and diversity to the field. The more diverse our future workforce is, the better off we will all be.

The Center for Field Sciences is a nonprofit charitable organization that is tax exempt under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue code and operates under tax ID 85-4119862.  Consult your financial adviser as your donation may be fully tax deductible and keep this letter for your tax records.
