How to Read Field School Evaluations

Our evaluation process includes input two distinct groups – (1) scholars who provide peer-review & (2) students who attend field schools.  Each group provides a different perspective. Scholars are interested in the quality of research and the ways by which field methods are taught and followed by students. Students are interested in the overall experience and judge the quality of pedagogy and teaching from the receiver side. Combined, the two groups provide a comprehensive evaluation of the overall quality of a program. All evaluations are repeated annually, and historical records are presented for each field school.

The peer-review process is conducted by our Board of Directors, a distinguish volunteer body who consist of some of the leading scholars within and outside archaeology. We not only have Academic archaeologists and Cultural Resource Management (CRM) professionals, our board also includes Study-Abroad leaders, Museum Curators and scholars from other disciplines to provide an outside perspective.
